Import from Toby, Workona, OneTab and bookmarks

You can move your saved tabs to tabExtend from Toby, Workona, OneTab, or the bookmarks of any browser. Imported links are added as new categories and groups in your current workspace. Nothing you already have is overwritten.

How to import

1. Open tabExtend, go to Settings and select the Data tab.
2. Next to Import data, pick where you are importing from.
3. Click Import and choose your export file, or paste your list for OneTab.

When the import is done, tabExtend opens the first imported category.

Import from Toby

Each Toby collection becomes a tabExtend group. Custom titles are kept, and card descriptions are saved as comments.

1. In Toby, open Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar.
2. Under your workspace, select Preferences and click Export next to Export Data.
3. Click Download next to JSON.
4. In tabExtend, choose Toby and select the file.

Toby exports one workspace at a time. Repeat these steps for each Toby workspace you want to bring over.

Import from Workona

Each Workona workspace becomes a tabExtend group with its saved tabs and resources. Workona sections become categories. Notes and tasks are not imported.

1. In Workona, click the settings gear at the bottom of the sidebar.
2. Click Export data, then Begin export. You may be asked to sign in again.
3. When it is ready, click Download my data. Pick JSON if you are asked for a format.
4. In tabExtend, choose Workona and select the file.

Import from OneTab

OneTab does not create an export file, so you copy your list and paste it into tabExtend. Each OneTab group becomes a tabExtend group.

1. In OneTab, open the menu and click Export / Import URLs.
2. Copy the whole list of links.
3. In tabExtend, choose OneTab, click Import and paste the list.

Have hundreds of OneTab groups? Small groups are merged so every link fits. A plain list of links, one per line, works too.

Import browser bookmarks

Import the bookmarks file from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, or bookmark tools like Raindrop.io. Top-level folders become categories and each folder of links becomes a group.

First, export your bookmarks as an HTML file:

• Chrome and Brave: open the Bookmark manager, click ⋮ and choose Export bookmarks.
• Edge: open Favorites, click ··· and choose Export favorites.
• Firefox: open Manage bookmarks, then Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML.
• Safari: choose File → Export → Bookmarks.

Then, in tabExtend, choose Browser bookmarks and select the .html file. Using Chrome or Edge? You can also add bookmark folders straight from the browser, see Import bookmarks.

Restore a tabExtend backup

Choose tabExtend and select a JSON file you exported from Settings → Data → Export. Groups, notes and stacked items are added as copies. Reminders are not restored.

Limits

• A workspace holds up to 8 categories with 16 groups each. Large imports are split across several categories. If the workspace fills up, you will see how many links were left out. Importing into a new, empty workspace gives you the most room.
• On the free plan, imported links count toward your free saves.

FAQ

Can I import my Toby collections into tabExtend?

Yes. Export your Toby workspace as JSON, then in tabExtend open Settings → Data, choose Toby and select the file. Each Toby collection becomes a tabExtend group.

Can I move from Workona or OneTab to tabExtend?

Yes. Workona exports a JSON file you can import directly. OneTab has no export file, so you copy the list from its Export / Import URLs page and paste it into tabExtend.

Does importing replace my existing tabExtend data?

No. Imports are added as new categories in your current workspace. Nothing you already have is changed or removed.

What about other tab managers, like Session Buddy?

If the app can export a bookmarks HTML file or a plain list of links, import it with the Browser bookmarks or OneTab option.
